Day of Percussion
The UW Percussion Studio co-hosts a Day of Percussion May 3 at the School of Music.

Percussionists Michael Burritt and Alan Keown are special guests for an entire day of percussion-related activities to be held at Meany Hall and the School of Music on Saturday, May 3.

Day of Percussion, organized by students from the UW Percussion Studio and sponsored by the UW School of Music, Percussive Arts Society, UW Percussion Club, The Drum Exchange, Sabian, YAMAHA, Malletech, Zildjian, Remo, Evans, DW, Black Swamp Percussion, Grover Percussion, and Offworld Percussion, will include master classes, performances, and other activities. 

The event gets underway at 10 a.m. at Brechemin Auditorium in the School of Music Brechemin with a master class by Michael Burritt, who also concludes the day's activities with a 7:30 pm concert at Brechemin Auditorium. All other events are at Meany Hall.   Admission is by free will offering.

 

Guest Artist Bios

Michael Burritt
Having performed on four continents and nearly forty states Michael Burritt is one of the World's leading percussion soloists. He is in frequent demand performing concert tours and master classes throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia and Canada. Mr. Burritt has been soloist with the Dallas Wind Symphony, Omaha Symphony, Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, Eastman Wind Ensemble, Ju Percussion Group (Taiwan), Percussion Art Quartet (Germany), Amores Percussion Group (Spain), Peaux (Sweden) and the Tempus Fugit Percussion Ensemble of Pittsburgh, PA.

Alan Keown
Alan Keown is a noted percussionist and teacher in the Pacific Northwest. As a performer he has worked with the Smothers Brothers, Suzanne Sommers, Sharri Lewis, the Britt Festival orchestra and numerous symphony orchestras including the renowned Oregon Bach Festival Orchestra. As a drum set artist he has performed in concerts and nightclubs throughout the Northwest, as well as recording studio dates for albums, jingles, and video projects.

He is a frequent consultant to high school and college band programs, and has been involved with Ted Turner's Goodwill Games as well as the competitive tour sponsored by Drum Corps International.
