Michael Berry is an artist-in-residence in Music Theory at the University of Washington, where he teaches and supervises the first-year theory and ear training sequence. He has also taught post-tonal theory and analysis. At the University of Washington Tacoma, he teaches courses on rap music, music and trauma, and the history of rock and roll.
He previously served as associate professor of music theory and coordinator of undergraduate theory at Texas Tech, where he taught undergraduate courses in harmony and aural skills and graduate classes in theory pedagogy, post-tonal analysis, and analysis and performance. Prior to his appointment at Texas Tech, Berry taught music theory, music appreciation, and double bass at The College of New Jersey.
