The University of Washington School of Music presents a celebration of Zimbabwean music at the UW on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, 4:30 to 9 p.m. A concert by Afropop group Ruzivo at 7:30 pm in Brechemin Auditorium wraps up the celebration.
Activities include a panel discussion, hands on marimba workshops led by Sheree Seretse and the UW Zimbabwean Music Club, and a concert by high-energy Zimbabwean Afropop group Ruzivo. All events take place at the School of Music Brechemin Auditorium.
The Ruzivo concert is free and open to the public.
"The event is geared for music educators, students in ethnomusicology and music education (both current and alumni), friends of ethnomusicology, and anyone else with an interest in Zimbabwean marimba music and its legacy at UW," says Matt Swanson, a Music Education graduate student and one of the organizers of the event.
