Biography

M.A., Music Theory, University of Washington, 2015
B.A., Music, College of the Holy Cross, Worchester, Massachusetts

From the rural Berkshire County of Massachusetts, Matthew is a current masters student in the Music Theory program. He studied composition and analysis under Shirish Korde and Osvaldo Golijov at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. In the summer of 2012, he received an Andrew W. Mellon fellowship grant for research in Hindustani music, which funded his thesis on Hindustani Raga structure. His other work includes analysis into the music of Béla Bartók, Hildegard of Bingen, Krzysztof Penderecki and Luigi Nono. Matthew’s musical background comprises many diverse interests – from the production of electronic music to the performance of jazz percussion and Tabla. At one time an aspiring composer, Matthew’s relentless desire to unravel and comprehend the underlying structures of western and non-western music helped guide him into the field of music theory.
