Music Librarian Judy Tsou was recently honored by the Music Library Association for extraordinary service to her profession.

The Association awarded Tsou and colleague Ruthann McTyre of the University of Iowa the A. Ralph Papakian Special Achievement award for extraordinary service to the profession of music librarianship over a relatively short period of time.

As presidents of Music Library Assocation (MLA) and U.S. chapter of the International Association of Music Libraries (IAML-U.S.), respectively, McTyre and Tsou worked together to facilitate a 2010 merger of the two organizations, engaging the memberships of the organizations in a dialogue that ultimately resulted in a merger philosophy that benefited both organzations.

"The road to merger was not without pitfalls, and Ruthann McTyre and Judy Tsou persisted with determination and diplomacy to explore and advance the plan," says Robert Follet, outreach officer of the MLA. "Thanks to their efforts, MLA has a stronger voice on the international stage of music librarianship."
