Joe Kaufman, double bass
Seattle Symphony Assistant Principal Bass Joseph Kaufman studied with David Yavornitzky at the University of Utah, and Jeff Bradetich at the University of North Texas. Kaufman has served as a member of the After graduating, Kaufman joined the New World Symphony; he has also served as Principal Bass of the Colorado Music Festival, the Verbier Chamber Orchestra, and as Assistant Principal of the Sun Valley Summer Symphony. His chamber music collaborations have included projects with James Buswell, Joshua Bell, and Dutch pianist and conductor Reinbert de Leeuw. In 2007 Kaufman performed a recital at the University of Washington in a program of modern works for unaccompanied double bass, and in 2011 he premiered doghouse, a performance-art piece for solo bass, at Town Hall Seattle’s “Mayday! Mayday!” music festival. Kaufman is on the faculty at Cornish College of the Arts, and has served on the faculty at Seattle University.
