UW Cello Day April 5, 2020

Calling all young cellists

The University of Washington School of Music is hosting a one-day musical event on Sunday April 5th which will including masterclasses with UW faculty, Dr. Sæunn Thorsteinsdóttir, and UW doctoral students, a community cello choir performance and more!

Participants will:

  • Play in a one-on-one masterclass
  • Enjoy a free lunch to meet the faculty and other participants
  • Rehearse with the cello choir
  • Perform in the cello choir concert

Rules and Requirements

Masterclass repertoire requirements: participants will perform one piece that can best display their musical abilities. Music doesn’t need to be memorized but it is suggested, accompanist is optional. You can bring your own accompanist or contact Li-Cheng Hung ( to schedule rehearsals.

Grade.        Total pieces length

PreK-5         5mins

6-8               8 mins

9-12            10 mins

Each participating cellist must accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Forms and Fees

The registration form is available here. Registration fee is $35; check is the only acceptable form of payment. Please pay to the order of University of Washington. Indicate the participant’s name and Cello Day in the memo field. All fees must mailed to:

Any mail requiring a signature will be refused, only regular mail is accepted. We will email you to confirm your registration is accepted when we receive your fee.

Deadline of Registration and Schedule

Registration form and fee must be received by March 13, 2020

Masterclass schedule and music for the cello choir will be sent out via email by March 30, 2020
