Guest pianist Ryo Yanagitani to perform, participate in panel

Guest pianist Ryo Yanagitani will participate in a panel discussion on careers in music and present a guest artist recital during his visit to the School of Music February 18 and 19.

Winner of the Tenth San Antonio International Piano Competition, Yanagitani performs works by Debussy, Chaminade, and Chopin, including the complete Chopin Ballades, during his recital Saturday, February 19, 1:30 p.m., at Brechemin Auditorium.

On Friday, February 18, he joins a group of music professionals in a panel discussion, moderated by School of Music professor Robin McCabe, on careers in music, preparing for competitions and performances, and other topics.

Others joining Yanagitani on the panel, which takes place at 4:30 in Brechemin Auditorium, include Maria Larionoff, concertmaster, Seattle Symphony Orchestra; Bernard Jacobson, author and music critic; School of Music faculty members Heidi Lehwalder, harp; Donna Shin, flute; and Stephen Rumph, Music History; graduate student Matthew Goodrich; and jazz alumnus Ivan Arteaga.
