Piano Times Three: Recitals by keyboard faculty on the horizon

Submitted by Joanne De Pue on February 1, 2017 - 10:54am

All three of the School of Music piano faculty--Craig Sheppard, Robin McCabe, and Cristina Valdés--present solo recitals at Meany Theater during Winter Quarter, highlighting an array of composers from classical to leading edge.

Composers inspired by composers

Artist-in-residence Cristina Valdés brings modern sensibilities to "Sourced," her Feb. 8 recital of works by composers inspired by outside sources, including other composers, specific pieces, and sounds in nature. Valdes unveils the world premiere of Program Notes, by faculty composer Richard Karpen, as well as works by UW composer Joël-François Durand; Olivier Messiaen; and Kotoka Suzuki in her ambitious program.

All Chopin and nothing but Chopin

Pianist Craig Sheppard, well known for his deep dives into the repertoire of select composers, turns his attention to Chopin in his Feb. 23 recital

Landmark works on the horizon

Pictures at an Exhibition, the landmark song cycle by Mussorgsky, and the Robert Schumann's "Concerto without Orchestra" are the program for a  March 9 recital by piano professor Robin McCabe.

Advance tickets for performances at Meany Theater are available online at artsuw.org.
