Librarian Kathryn Miller

University of Washington Libraries has appointed Kathryn Miller as interim Music and Arts Librarian following the departure in June of Erin Conor, former Head of the Music, Art, and Drama Libraries (see story here). In collaboration with Arts and Humanities Librarian Dylan Burns (who also serves as a liaison to The School of Music and Department of Cinema Studies), Miller's primary responsibilities include providing Libraries-related instruction for music courses on request, consultations, reference services, and collection development.

Miller is well-positioned to assume her position, having spent a year as the Graduate Research and Learning Services Specialist for Music, Art, and Drama in 2021-2022, under the tutelage of Burns and Conor.

Miller received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and a Postgraduate Diploma in Vocal Studies from the Royal Academy of Music in London. She obtained her MLIS in June 2022 from the UW’s Information School. For her capstone project, she developed and built an interactive recital repertoire planning tool to better connect students to libraries resources.

Previous work experience includes two years as a page at the King County Library System; administrator and registrar at East Bay Music Together in Berkeley; and assistant teacher at the Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley, putting her fluency in French to good use. Beyond work, Miller contributes her vocal talent to the Seattle Symphony Chorale, teaches barre fitness, and develops her parental skills with her one-year-old son, Ronan.
