David Rahbee: "Section Sounds", for low brass section & timpani, Warwick Music, 2024
The idea for this piece came after walking through a music school practice building. From one room I heard brass excerpts and in an another room nearby, I heard timpani excerpts. Hearing these sounds at the same time, I set out to synthesize musical gestures characteristic of each of those excerpt-sound worlds: low brass parts that sound like they are a part of a larger whole, with rhythmic punctuation from timpani. Could be a great choice to end a low brass or timpani recital.
