Spring/Summer 2021 Quarter Notes

NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

On the surface, the UW School of Music has concluded another year of successes by its students, faculty, and staff, having just graduated 73 Music students in a variety of degree programs, celebrating the inclusion of two Music majors in the accomplished “Husky 100” of UW students, applauding the first Music recipient of a Distinguished Dissertation Award, and congratulating the many graduates and alumni who are moving on to notable employment across the nation and beyond.  Our faculty continue to perform, record, and publish their musical interpretations and discoveries – all in all, another gleaming year in the history of the UW School of Music.

And yet, under the headlines, we are all changed, and the School of Music is changed. Continued

School of Music students Rose Hiemstra (B.M. Music Education) and Madeline Ile (B.A. Voice; B.A. Communication) are 2021 Husky 100 honorees. The UW-wide honor recognizes 100 undergraduate and graduate UW students exemplifying the Husky Experience in the classroom and beyond. School of Music staff member Colin Todd has been recognized with a University of Washington “Together We Will” honor, a special UW award created to recognize outstanding contributions of UW staff in 2020. Todd, senior computing specialist at the School of Music, was one of ten UW staff selected for the honor among 500 nominees across the UW’s three campuses. Academic appointments, performances, career milestones and other notable achievements. Dr. Paula Horner Harper (’12 MA, Music History; ’19 PhD, Musicology, Columbia University) has been appointed as an assistant professor of musicology at the University of Nebraska, in the Glenn Korff School of Music.
