Biography

Rachel Reyes is an active performer and teacher residing in Snohomish, WA. Recently, Reyes was selected as a winner for the 2024 University of Washington Concerto Competition and the 2023 National Flute Association Masterclass Competition. Other winnings include first place at the Arizona Flute Society 2022 Graduate/Professional Competition and 2022 Sewanee Summer Music Festival Jacqueline Avent Concerto Competition. Rachel spent the summer as a flute fellow at the 2023 Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival where she performed at the Juilliard Paul Hall and in Lincoln Center Plaza. Additionally, she performed at the 2023 National Flute Association Convention in Phoenix, AZ as a winner of the Masterclass Competition. Previously, Reyes served as the flute fellow for the 2022 Sewanee Summer Music Festival in Tennessee where she performed with the Sewanee Symphony, as part of the Advanced Chamber Music Series, and with the Sewanee Festival Orchestra as a winner of the Jacqueline Avent concerto competition. In 2021, she studied at the Brevard Music Institute in North Carolina and performed with the Brevard Music Center Orchestra and New Music Quintet. Previously, Rachel was a featured soloist and performed the Doppler Andante et Rondo concerto with Professor Donna Shin and the University of Washington Wind Ensemble at the 2020 PNW Band Festival. In addition, she was awarded a fellowship position and performed in the Faculty Artist Concert Series at the 2019 Sewanee Summer Music Festival. She was also a featured performer at the 2018 ARIA International Summer Music Academy in Massachusetts. 

Alongside her national performances, Rachel has performed internationally in the Philippines and in China. In 2019, she was invited to perform and teach masterclasses as principal of the University of Washington Wind Ensemble on their performance tour of China. Rachel graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree and studied with Professor Donna Shin at the University of Washington (UW). At UW, she also performed as principal of the UW Symphony Orchestra, with the Baroque and Modern Ensembles, and in various chamber music ensembles. Other performances include playing alongside the Seattle Symphony and Seattle Modern Orchestra. Rachel received a Master of Music degree at Arizona State University (ASU) studying with Dr. Elizabeth Buck At ASU, she performed with the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Studio Orchestra, and Contemporary Modern Ensemble. Also passionate about chamber music, she played with the 5quint Wind Quintet while in Arizona. 

Rachel is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of Washington and is continuing her studies with Professor Donna Shin. She serves as a Teaching Assistant for the Flute Studio, Chamber Music Lab, Modern Music Ensemble, and Music Appreciation classes. At the UW, she performs with the Symphony Orchestra and Modern Music Ensemble. 

Outside of music, she enjoys tending to her indoor garden and spending time with her family and her dog Pochacco.
