Chengdu, Xi'an, and Beijing, China
The University of Washington's top auditioned wind band stages its third tour to China March 21 through April 1, 2019, with performances in Chengdu, Xi'an, and Beijing. The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Timothy Salzman, plans concerts and master classes at Sichuan University, the Xi'an Conservatory of Music, and Tsinghua University, among other venues.
Musicians joining the tour include fifty-six of the University of Washington’s finest wind and percussion student musicians, joined by faculty members Ben Lulich, clarinet, and Michael Brockman, saxophone. The musicians in the ensemble come from all fields of study and have previously performed at prestigious music conferences and internationally.
Ensemble Director Timothy Salzman has served as visiting professor at the China Conservatory, conducted the People's Liberation Army Band in concert, and appeared in concert with the Beijing Wind Orchestra at the National Center for the Performing Arts.
The UW community may preview the Wind Ensemble's tour program on Tuesday, March 12 at the UW's Gerlich Theater (formerly Meany Theater), when the Wind Ensemble presents its China Tour Preview Concert with special guest Ben Lulich, clarinet.
