Submitted by Joanne De Pue on April 27, 2016 - 5:44pm
Young composers work at Benaroya Hall.

World premieres by ten teen composers, directed by faculty composer Huck Hodge, will be presented at Seattle’s Benaroya Hall Monday, May 2, 7 p.m., in the culmination of Seattle Symphony’s Merriman Family Young Composer Workshop (YCW).

The ten young musicians selected to participate in the 12-week program, underwritten by the Merriman Family, worked under Hodge’s direction on all aspects of composing, including writing themes, learning orchestration and preparing a final score with parts.

The program concludes each year with a public concert in which each student’s work is performed live by Seattle Symphony musicians and friends. The May 2 concert is free and open to the public; no tickets are required.

Details about the concert and workshop are available here.
