Spring 2018 Quarter Notes

Research, teaching, and innovative music-making set the tone for this issue of Quarter Notes, chronicling only a small portion of the recent work of UW Music’s community of scholars, artists, and creators. Faculty awards, conference presentations, and new academic appointments are cause for recognition, and upcoming milestones, festivals, and the generosity of devoted friends provide many reasons to be grateful.

UW Music History Professor JoAnn Taricani was recently awarded the 2017 Noah Greenberg Award by the American Musicological Society for her edition and recording of newly discovered music for the coronation of the British King Charles II.   Intended as a grant-in-aid to stimulate active cooperation between scholars and performers, the annual award includes a certificate, recognition at the Society’s annual business meeting, and a $2,000 cash prize that recipients may use to help subsidize… Read more
 International performances, master classes, keynote addresses, and new publications are among recent activities of UW Music faculty as they execute research and performance in their recent work at the University of Washington and world-wide. Montana’s big sky beckons, and Jennifer Grahl Miller is heeding the call, bidding farewell to the School of Music in a transition to new opportunities and ventures after nearly 12 years as the School's undergraduate advisor. Miller and her family are relocating to the Bozeman, Montana area, where Miller has accepted a new position as a Success Advisor at Montana State University (MSU).
