Jon Hil joins the School of Music faculty in Fall 2016 as a part time artist in residence in tuba performance. Percussionist Bonnie Whiting has been involved in music since early childhood, but it was the appeal of the stomping, tapping, and other rhythmic movements of her dance lessons that helped her find her musical focus. “I started as a dancer,” says the newly arrived chair of the UW’s Percussion Studies Program, “and I loved the rhythm of moving my body.”

In his short and turbulent life, German composer Max Reger (1873-1916) created a substantial body of work in a range of genres that Reger historian Christopher Anderson of Southern Methodist University has termed “an astounding oeuvre of 146 opus numbers and much uncatalogued music besides, exploring every major genre except opera.”

Faculty, staff, and students at the School of Music were saddened by the recent passing of Patricia “Patti” Marsh, longtime friend of the School of Music and member of the School’s Volunteer Advisory Board.
A lifelong music lover, Patti grew up in Seattle’s Mt. Baker neighborhood, attending John Muir Grade School, Franklin High School, and Forest Ridge High School. After graduation, she attended the University of Washington and was a member of the Iota Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta.
